About John McKay

John McCay graduated with a BA (Hons) in Architecture in 1995 from De Montfort University, Leicester and with a Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture in 1998 from the University of Sheffield. He subsequently obtained an MA in Architecture in 2000 from the University of Sheffield. He is a Registered Architect with 15 years’ experience and is registered with the RIAI (Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland) as well as being a registered member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).

Prior to establishing his own practice in 2011, John was employed as architect at McGarrigle + Jackson Architects in Derry (2005 – 2010) and OKM (O’Connor Keogh & Mulcaire) Architects in Galway (1998-2005). He has acted for numerous clients including those in the residential, education, healthcare, commercial, semi-state, and industrial fields. During this time, he was project architect on multiple projects from concept stage through to construction and completion. With a strong interest in architectural education, John has also acted since 2005 as a tutor for students undertaking the Oxford Brookes University “RIBA Examination in Architecture for Office-Based Candidates”, providing support to students and assisting them in their preparation for examinations, portfolio submissions and essay / dissertation submissions. The practice places a strong emphasis on the delivery of projects of good quality design, and focuses on providing all clients with a highly professional service.
